1. Vienna State Opera.

The Vienna State Opera (Wiener Staatsoper) is one of the most popular Instagram spots in the city. This building looks really impressive both from the outside and inside. In fact, the pictures of the Vienna State Opera taken on the terrace of the Albertina Museum most frequently appear on Instagram.

How to get there:

By U-Bahn: U1, U2, U4 (Karlsplatz)

By tram: 62 (Karlsplatz); D, 1, Ring Tram (Oper)

By bus: 59A, 4A (Karlsplatz)

2. St. Stephen’s Cathedral.

If you are looking for the most iconic Instagram places in Vienna, you should visit the St. Stephen’s Cathedral (Stephansdom) to see the panoramic view of the city from one of its towers. It’s best to go early in the morning or just before sunset.

South Tower: Monday to Sunday from 9.00 am to 5.30 pm; € 5 adults,  € 2-3 children

3. St. Charles’ Church.

The Church of St. Charles’ (Karlskirche) in Vienna is sometimes called the Austrian Taj Mahal. The building is really impressive and looks great on the pictures. If you’re looking for the best photo spots in Vienna, do not miss this one.

4. Hofburg Imperial Palace.

The Hofburg Imperial Palace is really huge, it consists of many buildings and courtyards. However, the most instagrammable place is St. Michael’s Gate at Michelerplatz. People usually take pictures of fiacres (horse-drawn carriages) here.

5. Hudertwasserhaus.

Many people come to the Hundertwasserhaus to take a picture of its colorful house facade, curved pavements, and a fancy fountain.

How to get there:

By U-Bahn: U3 (Landstraße, Rochusgasse) or U4 (Landstraße) – plus about 10 minutes (700 m) on foot
By tram: 0 (Radetzkyplatz), 1 (Hetzgasse) – the nearest stop

6. St. Peter’s Church.

St. Peter’s Church (Peterskirche) is located right next to Graben, which is one of the most representative places in the old town. This building can be seen on many Instagram photos from Vienna.

7. Schönbrunn Gloriette.

They say that being in Vienna and not seeing the Schönbrunn Palace is like being in Paris and not visiting the Eiffel Tower. Speaking of Schönbrunn, if you will be there, make sure to go for a walk to Gloriette. The beautiful panorama of Vienna can be seen from here and it is one of the best spots for taking pictures of the Palace and Gardens of Schönbrunn.

9. Vienna City Hall.

Das Loft, the sky bar of the Sofitel Hotel (SO/ Vienna Hotel) is one of the best places to watch the sunset in Vienna. A wonderful view and colorful ceiling make it an excellent Instagram spot.

12. Palais Ferstel.

The marble-clad passage of Palais Ferstel with luxury stores and cafes looks really splendid. It is also called the Freyung Passage. Do not forget to visit the famous Café Central which is located nearby.

13. Votive Church.

Where to find blooming magnolias in Vienna? Next to the Votive Church (Votivkirche)! At the end of March and beginning of April, this is the most popular place on Instagram.

    I visited Viena multiple times but even I didn’t know about some of these places! Each one of them surely is deserving of being called “one of the most instagrammable places in town”. I loved all of them and will surely check out the ones I missed when I visit next time

      Some of these places are known only to local people and maybe a few tourists who did a good research. I am glad that you want to see Vienna again. This city is worth it.

    I had the opportunity to go to Vienna when I was last in Munich, and I didn’t. After reading your post and seeing the lovely pictures, I’m regretting my (terrible) choice not to go! I would have loved to see Hofburg and Schonbrunn (sorry about the lack of an umlaut there!) I’m planning to go to Germany again soon, so I’ll be sure to actually go to Vienna this time! Thank you!

    Instagrammable places indeed! Vienna is among our wish-we-could-travel-there list. Difficult for us considering that we’re from the Philippines, and getting a visa to Europe is quite challenging.
